Become a Councillor

The Good Councillors Guide 2018 published by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) 

introduces the work of local councils and the part you play as a councillor in the tier of local government closest to the people. 

It provides essential guidance for both new and long-established local councillors. It also provides helpful information for those thinking about becoming a local councillor.


PARISH COUNCIL OF WOOLBEDING WITH REDFORD

If you are interested in becoming a councillor please write to the clerk at the address below, setting out why you would like to serve on the council. The applications will then be considered at the next parish council meeting.

To be a councillor you must fulfil the following criteria:

    a) be 18 or over and on the electoral register

    b) be a British subject or EU National

    c) be a resident of the Parish or live within 3 miles of its boundary 

Prospective candidates should familiarise themselves with the disqualification restrictions under Section 80 of the Local Government Act 1972 relating to bankruptcy restriction orders and criminal convictions carrying a sentence of more than 3 months imprisonment without the option of a fine.
